In May 2026, the Federal Court ruled that Coles misled shoppers on 245 everyday products — temporarily raising prices by 15% before calling them "Down Down" discounts. Woolworths is currently in court for the same thing. We built CheapAsMate so Australians have independent, verifiable price data. Here's exactly how it works.

We scrape prices directly from supermarket and pharmacy websites — independently, without using their own data feeds or APIs. That means we record what prices actually are, not what stores report to third parties.
Stores tracked: Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, IGA, Costco, Chemist Warehouse, Priceline, Terry White, Discount Chemist, Direct Chemist Outlet.
Only one badge shows per deal card — the highest priority match wins.
Current price ties or beats the lowest we've recorded in 90 days.
Based on our own price history — not the supermarket's "was" price.
More than 40% below the normal price.
An unusually large discount. May not be the absolute lowest, but well above average savings.
This price changed within the last 24 hours.
Fresh deal — scraped and verified today. Act now, it may not last the week.
The product was cheaper at some point in the last 90 days.
Honest warning — good deal, but not the best we've seen. Based on a real recorded price.
Price was raised before this "special" — not a genuine discount.
We detected the price went UP before coming down to the "sale" price. The ACCC calls this misleading conduct.
Less than 15% off, or less than $1 saved.
We flag these so you can decide. Sometimes worth it, often not.
We analyse each product's price history to detect sale cycles — how often it goes on sale, and how consistent the interval is. When a product has a regular pattern (e.g. Coles Anchor Butter goes on sale every ~21 days), we predict when the next sale is due.
Price is at or near a historical low. Best time to buy.
Sale expected in N days based on historical cycle. Hold off.
Sale predicted within ~3 weeks. Not urgent, but coming.
Catalogue-confirmed upcoming sale. Verified from store catalogues.
The small price chart on each deal card shows the last 90 days of recorded prices for that product at that store. A flat line = stable price. Dips = past sales. If the current price matches the bottom of the chart, you're at or near the lowest we've seen — which is when the LOWEST 90D badge shows.
No. CheapAsMate is completely independent. We don't earn commissions when you buy, and no supermarket pays us to feature, rank, or promote their products.
We're built for Australian shoppers — not for retailers. Our only goal is to give you accurate, honest price data so you can make better decisions.
Every search bar on CheapAsMate understands plain English. No need to click filters manually — describe what you want and we'll apply store, price, allergen, and sort filters automatically.

Pharmacy stores like Chemist Warehouse run 2–4 week sales (vs grocery's 1-week cycle). Our algorithm needs 3+ confirmed sale cycles to predict — most pharmacy products have only 1–2 cycles so far. As we collect more data, pharmacy predictions will appear automatically on the Predictions page.
Many aren't. In May 2026, the Federal Court ruled that Coles misled shoppers on 245 everyday products — temporarily raising prices by 15% before calling them "Down Down" discounts. The court found items needed to be at the higher price for 12 weeks to count as a genuine "was" price; Coles only used 4 weeks. Woolworths is in court for the same thing. CheapAsMate tracks what prices actually were — not what supermarkets claim. When we show "Was $4.79 in Jul 2026", that's a date-stamped price we recorded ourselves.
We scrape prices directly from Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, IGA, Costco, Chemist Warehouse, Priceline, Terry White, Discount Chemist, and Direct Chemist Outlet — independent of their own APIs. We've tracked over 925,000 price records going back to January 2021.
The current price ties or beats the lowest price we've recorded for that product in the last 90 days. It's based on our own price history — not the supermarket's stated "was" price.
We analyse how often a product goes on sale and how consistent the cycle is. If Coles puts Anchor Butter on sale every ~21 days, and it's been 18 days since the last sale, we predict it's due soon. Higher confidence means more sale cycles observed and a more consistent pattern. This is a guide, not a guarantee.
Confidence reflects how consistent a product's sale cycle is. 80%+ means the pattern is very regular. 40–60% means the cycle exists but varies. Below 40%, treat it as a rough estimate only.
This means the product was cheaper at some point in the last 90 days — based on a price we recorded, not a supermarket estimate. It's an honest warning that while it's on sale now, you may have been able to get it even cheaper recently.
No. We're completely independent. We don't earn commissions when you buy, and no supermarket pays us to feature their products. Our data comes from our own scraping, not from supermarket data feeds.
We scrape prices daily for most stores. Catalogue specials (confirmed upcoming sales) are updated when stores release their weekly catalogues — typically Wednesday/Thursday.
