The story
CheapAsMate started with one question: why does the same product seem to cost different amounts every week?
Australian supermarkets run cyclical promotions. Woolworths puts chicken on half-price roughly every 4 weeks. Coles' breakfast cereals go on special in a predictable pattern. Once you have 5.5 years of price history, you can see the rhythm β and predict when the next sale is coming.
We built an AI model to do exactly that. Every morning at 5am we record the price of 345,000+ groceries from Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, IGA, Chemist Warehouse, Costco, Priceline, and more. Our forecaster analyses the history and tells you: BUY now (it's a real sale), HOLD (wait for a better deal), or WAIT (sale is coming soon).
The result: a typical household saves an estimated $847/year by buying the right things at the right time β based on basket analysis across our tracked products.
